Walk Behind vs Ride On Scrubber Dryer: Choosing for Your Facility

Choose a scrubber dryer from the cleaning route and workload, then compare models. Floor area alone is insufficient: a large building with small rooms can need a different machine from an open warehouse of the same size.

The decision in three points

  • Measure the usable route and narrowest access.
  • Compare practical cleaning time, including tank stops.
  • Confirm batteries, charger and accessories in writing.

Step 01

Start with access and turning space

Measure the narrowest doorway, aisle, lift and storage entrance. Include the squeegee and any protruding components, rather than checking brush width alone. Record turns, ramps and changes in surface level and check each model's operating limits.

Walk behind machines can be practical for shorter routes, rooms and tighter aisles. Ride on machines merit consideration for long open routes where the chassis fits and pedestrians can be managed safely. Neither format is automatically better.

Step 02

Estimate practical cleaning time

Published productivity is usually a theoretical figure. Your route also requires turns, obstacle avoidance, refilling, emptying, preparation and cleanup. Time a representative route or request a demonstration before relying on a productivity figure for staffing.

Compare solution and recovery capacity with the location of water and discharge points. A bigger tank reduces stops only when it is practical to refill, empty and store the machine.

Step 03

Check power, accessories and maintenance

Confirm batteries and charger inclusion in writing. Review charging location, electrical supply, duty cycle and storage. For a mains-powered model, plan cable management and access to suitable sockets.

Compare brush or pad choice, replacement squeegees, filters and service access. Select accessories for the specific floor; a machine can damage a surface when used with an unsuitable pad or chemical.

Step 04

Use a comparable quotation

Ask both quotations to state the exact model, tank capacities, working width, batteries, charger, brushes, delivery, tax treatment and service terms. Compare total configuration and operating requirements rather than headline machine price.

Send Moral Clean the cleaning area, surface, narrowest access, operating hours and facility location. Use the category comparisons below to shortlist models, then confirm suitability against the manufacturer's datasheet.
